Michael Bernhardt

Major Gifts and Planned Giving Officer

Michael seeks out the largest donations and funding programs that help sustain the United Way of Wyoming Valley. As part of his job, Michael researches available grant opportunities and writes proposals to win them. The United Way’s chief mission to address issues of childhood poverty drives him to be the best at his job. “I love that, through our work in the areas of Education, Financial Stability, and Health, we’re able to help improve daily living for individuals, children and families living in poverty,” he said.

Our staff members aren’t just the best in their field, they’re compassionate and giving to their core. That’s why Real Men Read, a program that puts male volunteers in front of kindergarten students to read and discuss children’s stories, is among his favorites of United Way’s initiatives. In his free time, you can find Michael hiking or kayaking. He also enjoys reading and leatherwork.
