The Labor Leadership Giving Society was created in 1999 and designed to recognize any union member who donates $300 or more to the annual United Way, Combined Federal Campaign (CFC), or State Employe Combined Appeal (SECA).  Four recognition giving levels exist for those who donate $300-$499, $500-$749, $750-$999 and $1,000 & above.  Individuals who donate at any of the various leadership levels get their name, as well as their union and employee name published in a special recognition directory.

United Way of Wyoming Valley was the first United Way within the state of Pennsylvania to develop a Labor Leadership Giving recognition program and one of the first throughout the United States.  In 2002, United Way of America named United Way of Wyoming Valley's Labor Leadership Giving Program as a "Best Practice Program" in the United States.  In last year's campaign,
